Oatly, the plant-based milk company, recently went IPO, and demand for its stock can be considered as red-hot. Just before its listing, the company did a fund-raising program with several popular celebrities such as Jay-Z and Oprah Winfrey, valuing the company at US$2bn. That valuation shot up 6x based on the current price.
Oatly is currently valued at 27x P/S, a substantial premium over its closest plant-based competitor, Beyond Meat which is trading below 20x P/S. Does the stock’s hyper sales growth justify its current valuation?
