Hi all. Welcome to New Academy of Finance portfolio and net worth report!
Coming to the last month of the year and into the 4th month of my sabbatical, I am still treading this whole new financial journey with a certain level of trepidation, given the significant loss of working income.
However, I felt this is a golden chance for me to spend more time interacting with my kids in their crucial growing-up years while concurrently taking some “time-off” from work to ponder about the life direction of where my next 30-years would be.
A workaholic I might be, it does not necessarily mean that I will want to be constraint by the “need” to continue working for the next 3 decades.
That is why I am starting on this journey with New Academy of Finance and hope that the birth of this blog can be an inspiration to others in their search for financial freedom as well.
OK. Enough of the ramblings. Let’s start this entry with a brief summary of our portfolio performance.
We added a number of US counters this month while keeping our HK and SG stocks constant. The portfolio achieved a capital gain of 5.5% Month on Month in December
Key outperformers were Tencent Holdings, China Maple Leaf Education, Alibaba and Jumbo Group.
No significant detractors although the depreciation of the USD did have a rather large negative impact on our portfolio after conversion to SGD terms.
Passive Portfolio
I have not included my Passive Portfolio holdings in this month’s report as the amount is still pretty negligible (<$2k). The aim is ultimately to create a passive portfolio that will hold up to 60% of my total portfolio holdings. More information on this segment will be provided in the following monthly reports.
December Net Worth Update
Our household net worth increased by 1.9% to hit SGD$1.233m. This was mainly attributable to the better performance of the equity portfolio as well as additional annual interest contributions from CPF.
The difference between the “Investment-Related” amount of SGD$197k and my portfolio amount of SGD$96k is cash balances sitting in the brokerage account to be progressively deployed.
With that, I wrapped up the Portfolio and Networth update for December.
