Free Dividend Resources

What if there is an investment strategy that could provide you with a secure stream of cash, FOR LIFE! If there is an investment strategy that allows you to live off 4-5% of your portfolio each year without having to sell your shares, would you be interested? Not only that, but your income stream can also grow by 5-10% each year, thus beating the negative impact of inflation.

Sounds like the Ideal Retirement asset to own?

What if this strategy also has a strong track record of not only being less volatile than the S&P500 index but also consistently outperforming it?

This is not a PONZI scheme. It is just plain old dividend investing or investing in dividend-paying stocks. While it might not seem like there is anything special about investing in companies that pay dividends, their performance numbers will blow you away. Dividend-paying stocks are like the Volvos of the investing world. They are not fancy, but they have a lot going for them when you look deeper under the hood.

I have previously written an extremely comprehensive Guide to Dividend Investing article which I believe many beginners will find helpful in gaining a better understanding of dividend investing.

Beyond that guide, I have also written frequently on topics relating to dividends such as:

  1. 7 Golden Rules of Dividend Investing
  2. Dividend Yield Theory – The Underappreciated Valuation Tool
  3. Dividend Investing Strategy: Combining key ratios with economic moats

In this article, I look to provide the ultimate list of free dividend resources for investors (seasoned or beginners) to know all about dividend investing.

Dividend Investing for beginners: Ultimate list of free dividend resources

I will be breaking down the list of dividend resources into 2 key segments:

  1. Dividend-investing related blogs and newsletters
  2. Dividend-investing tools

For each of the links, I will provide a quick summary of what the website is all about. The list is in no particular order but these websites are generally active and provide useful free reading materials/tools for dividend investors.

Without further ado, let’s get starting on the ultimate list of dividend resources for beginners.

Dividend Investing for beginners: Dividend Investing related blogs and newsletters

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #1: Dividend Power

This is a pretty new blog that was started back in 2019 and focuses on the power of dividend growth investing. The site is about building wealth using a dividend growth investing strategy, with a long-term horizon. The author generally looks for undervalued large-cap stocks with sustainable dividend growth and capital appreciation potential.

The website doesn’t just focus on write-ups on dividend stocks but other personal finance and related matters such as 5 ways to improve your financial fitness, one of its latest blog posts which tackles the topic of budgeting and debt.

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #2: Dividend Growth Investor

This is a pretty seasoned website that started writing about dividend investing in 2008 and has written thousands of articles on dividend investing topics as well as dividend stocks. The website also provides a list of Dividend King stocks, companies that have raised their dividends consecutively for 50 years.

Most of the articles have a focus on dividend investing such as this particular one that does a simple analysis on Kroger as a dividend-paying stock.

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #3 and #4: The Dividend Guy and Dividend Monk

The Dividend Guy is a website/blog that is written by Mike. He wasn’t the founder of the blog (which started back in 2005) but bought it in 2010 and started writing articles on dividend investing which has also become his key investing philosophy. Again, Mike is not focused on chasing the stocks with the highest yield but on dividend growth stocks.

Mike also runs a podcast that covers all aspects of dividend growth investing: How to build your dividend growth investing portfolio; and how to manage that portfolio so you can eventually enjoy a stress-free retirement.

Some of his latest podcasts include topics like: Protect your portfolio from yourself and How to invest a lump Sum of Money in an ALL-Time high market.

Mike also has another website: Dividend Monk which also focuses on dividend investing.

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #5 and #6: Dividend Mantra and mrfreeat33

Dividend Mantra is started by Jason Fieber who is pretty well-known in the world of dividend investing. Jason Fieber is the author of The Dividend Mantra Way which details how one can achieve financial independence by living below your means and investing in dividend growth stocks.

Dividend Mantra has articles that don’t just focus purely on dividend investing or dividend stocks but also other investing topics such as cryptocurrency, with its latest crypto article (written back in May) on dogecoin.

There has been a reduction in article frequencies of late. For those who are interested in following Jason, he is more active on his core site mrfreeat33 where he blogs about stock analyses, market news, dividend updates, and the dividend growth investing strategy.

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #7: Dividend Earner

The Dividend Earner is a blog that is focused mostly on Canadian dividend stocks with some of the latest articles on Canadian banks such as Laurentian Bank and First National. However, the author also blogs about US stocks and has dividend growth counters such as Microsoft, Apple, and Blackrock, etc in its portfolio.

The author also showcases his dividend portfolio and has managed to grow his portfolio of $46k back in 2009 to a 7-digit dividend portfolio at present.

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #8: Dividend Diplomats

This is a blog about 2 guys’ journey to achieve financial freedom through dividend investing. It is not solely just on dividend investing but they also blog on other personal finance-related matters The blog has a featured Top 5 list posts which contains listicle articles on Top 5 things on almost anything investing or personal finance, for example, the Top 5 foundation stocks for a dividend investor

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #9: Dividend.com

This is a commercial website that is focused on providing comprehensive dividend stock research information, in the form of daily articles, data, and ratings.

In addition to free content, including stock recommendations, strategy explainers, tools, calculators, and advice, Dividend.com offers a newsletter and a premium service for paying members.

Investors looking to bone up on strategy or research specific stocks will find a lot of information to help them on this thorough site, although some content is flagged for premium members only.

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #10: Sure Dividends

This is a newsletter subscription website that also provides a lot of useful free articles about dividend investing. The website aims to help individual investors build high-quality dividend growth portfolios for the long run, to achieve financial freedom through an investment portfolio that pays rising dividend income over time.

Some of the recent free articles which the website publish regularly are Top 7 Dividend Champions to Buy now as well as Behavioural Finance Theory for individual investors.

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #11: Simply Safe Dividends

This is another investment newsletter website that also provides tons of free reading materials concerning dividend investing.

This website was set up back in 2015 by Brian Bollinger who works as an equity analyst at Ironbridge Capital Management. His goal in setting up Simply Safe Dividends is to empower individual investors to take control of their financial futures.

The unique feature of the newsletter is having access to portfolio tracking tools that focuses on finding the safest dividend stocks to invest in, using its Dividend Safety Scores which is a time-tested analytical platform that seeks to rank dividend-paying stocks based on their ability to continue paying and growing their dividends, evaluating metrics such as payout ratios and debt levels etc.

Dividend investing related blogs/newsletters #12: Divgro

This is a website that aims to chronicle the journey of the writer whose primary goal is to generate a reliable and growing dividend income stream. While the author provides consistent updates on his dividend portfolio performances, one excellent feature is that he constantly showcases high-quality dividend growth stocks of the month using his DVK Quality Snapshots. He also uses tools such as Simply Safe dividends’ Dividend Safety Score to better identify strong performing dividend counters.

However, many of his detailed articles need to be read over at SeekingAlpha where he is one of the most prominent writers focusing on dividend investing.

Dividend Investing for beginners: Dividend-Investing Tools

Dividend investing Tools #1: DRIP Investing

This is a website that provides a lot of free articles on dividend investing but what I like most about it is the access to its list of Dividend Champion companies (stocks that have increased their dividend every year for the past 25 years and can be downloaded in excel format.

There are also other useful tools on this website such as the Dividend Meter which is a spreadsheet created in Google Sheets that is visually appealing. Another useful tool is the Portfolio Slicer although setting it up takes some time.

All in all, a very useful website to get free resources on Dividend investing, particularly its frequently updated list of Dividend Champions which contains comprehensive dividend data on the counters.

Dividend investing Tools #2: Dividend stocks

This is a website that provides screening services that focuses predominantly on dividend stocks. While the free access will allow you to screen for up to the Top 50 dividend stocks that meet your dividend criteria, the paid version will allow you to have access to 1581 international stocks.

Dividend investing Tools #3: Nasdaq Dividend History

Provides a counter’s historical dividend history which includes cash amount, declaration date, record date as well as Pay date.

Besides historical information, one can also access the dividend calendar which shows the companies that are going ex-dividend in the coming days/weeks.

Dividend investing Tools #4: Dividend Max

This website provides a forecast to see if the company is likely to increase its dividend payment over the next financial quarter (assuming quarterly payment). However, for a longer forecast, one will need to subscribe to its paid version.

It provides a quick snapshot of the annual dividend payment using a bar chart as well as the historical dividend yield of the counter which can be useful when determining the fair value of the counter using a valuation method such as the Dividend Yield Theory.

Dividend investing Tools #5: Dividend Investor

Similar to Dividend Max, Dividend Investor allows an investor to forecast a counter’s future dividend payment based on certain assumptions. However, unlike Dividend Max which only provides a forecast for the upcoming dividend payment, this site allows forecasting for a much longer horizon based on your assumption such as dividend growth rate, etc.

Dividend Investor also publishes articles on its homepage, informing investors with topics such as highlighting companies going ex-dividend in upcoming weeks or identifying companies that pay monthly dividends, etc.

Dividend investing Tools #6: Dividend Tracker

This is a tracking tool that has both a FREE version as well as a PAID version. This allows you to track the performance of your dividend portfolio easily and will also calculate how much your portfolio of dividend stocks will be worth in the future, based on several simple assumptions which you can input accordingly into their Dividend Calculator.

Dividend Tracker also has its own proprietary Dividend Safety Score which is similar to that of Simply Safe Dividends but at a fraction of the cost compared to SSD. However, the level of in-depth research on the dividend stock is not as detailed as that of SSD.

Dividend investing Tools #7: Dividend Stocks Online

Most of the content on Dividend Stocks Online is restricted to its paying members. The site does share a list of stocks that pay monthly dividends and shows stock ex-dividend dates by month, but for other key data in its charts, you’ll have to pay to join.

Members have access to lists of pre-screened dividend-paying stocks, high yield stock ratings, high yield REITs, and other stocks. Premium content is updated once per month, which may not suit investors hungry for the latest information.
